Radial velocities and iron abundances of field
This is the second of the papers devoted to derive radial velocities and iron abundances of field RR Lyraes observed by HIPPARCOS. Our abundances show good agreement with those in the literature obtained both from photometric (∆S index) and spectroscopic methods. Binary candidates and stars misclassified as RR Lyraes in the original HIPPARCOS list have been also identified.
متن کاملApplication of radial basis functions to shape description in a dual-element off-axis magnifier.
We previously demonstrated that radial basis functions may be preferred as a descriptor of free-form shape for a single mirror magnifier when compared to other conventional descriptions such as polynomials [Opt. Express 16, 1583 (2008)]. A key contribution is the application of radial basis functions to describe and optimize the shape of a free-form mirror in a dual-element magnifier with the s...
متن کاملRadial velocities of planetary nebulae towards the Galactic bulge
Accurate radial velocities for a sample of 71 planetary nebulae, mostly located in the direction of the Galactic Centre, are presented. Most of the nebulae discussed in this paper are likely members of the Galactic bulge, based on their radial velocity, longitude and derived distance. The data give a large improvement over existing catalogues, doubling the sample of bulge planetary nebulae with...
متن کاملThe Metallicity Distribution of the Milky Way Bulge
The Galactic bulge of the Milky Way is made up of stars with a broad range of metallicity, –3.0 < [Fe/H] <1 dex. The mean of the metallicity distribution function decreases as a function of height z from the plane and, more weakly, with galactic radius RGC. The most metal-rich stars in the inner Galaxy are concentrated to the plane and the more metal-poor stars are found predominantly further f...
متن کاملTriplet Spectroscopy of Giants in SMC Star Clusters : Abundances , Velocities and the Age - Metallicity Relation
We have obtained spectra at the Ca II triplet of individual red giants in seven SMC star clusters whose ages range from ∼4 to 12 Gyr. The spectra have been used to determine mean abundances for six of the star clusters to a typical precision of 0.12 dex. When combined with existing data for other objects, the resulting SMC age-metallicity relation is generally consistent with that for a simple ...
